Immigrating to the United States of America

A simple guide to help you get there and set yourself up on arrival
In the United States of America it is customery to give a tip on service, with tip size dependent on how good this service was. Tipping is usually 10% to 20% on top of the total bill. Tipping is most common when waited on at a restaurant. When tipping please keep in mind that these waiters are generally paid quite low, with an assumption from management that tipping will bridge the gap in their wages. Another thing to keep in mind is that some restaurants will automaically charge a fee for gratuitey in luie of a tip. This fee will be mentioned in the bill so look here before determining if you will leave a tip. Tipping is common for services such as:

-restaurant waiters: 10 to 20%
-haircuts: 10 to 20%
-delivered food: 10 to 20%
-catching a taxi: 15%, or more if you have large bags
-a bellboy carrying bags: $1 per bag is sufficient
-buying a drink at a bar: $1 per drink is sufficient. One big tip at the start of the night can provide efficient service for your group.
